Posbank cycling routes: choose your route through the Veluwezoom

A climb through the woods, sweeping views and plenty of time to stop and take it all in. Cycling around the Posbank is about more than covering the miles. Looking for a route that suits your plans? Below, you can compare a 31-kilometre ride with a longer 55-kilometre route, complete with starting points, parking information and route downloads.

The Posbank lies in Veluwezoom National Park near Rheden. This is a different national park from De Hoge Veluwe.

Latest update — checked on 14 October 2026: Schietbergseweg Hoog is closed to cyclists as well as motor traffic until 17 November 2026 due to roadworks. Before setting off, check how this affects your chosen route. See Natuurmonumenten’s roadworks and access information.

Distance is only part of the picture. A hilly ride takes more effort than the same number of kilometres on flat cycle paths. Leave yourself time for breaks, too: not every view needs to be enjoyed from the saddle.

A Posbank cycling route of around 30 km: Dieren–Veluwezoom

Looking for a ride of around 30 kilometres? Natuurmonumenten’s Dieren–Veluwezoom route near the Posbank covers 31 kilometres. It combines the flatter landscape along the River IJssel with the hills of the Veluwezoom. There is a challenging climb along the way, so bear that in mind when choosing your route.

The ride starts at Dieren railway station. Arriving by car? Natuurmonumenten suggests using the station’s Park and Ride car park. The route page includes directions and a GPX file for your navigation device or app.

Rondje Posbank: 55 km along the numbered cycle network

Fancy a longer ride? Nederland Fietsland’s Rondje Posbank is a 55-kilometre route following the numbered cycle junction network. It takes you through woodland, past heathland and through places such as Velp, Rheden and Dieren.

The suggested starting point is Veluwetransferium Posbank at Heuvenseweg 5a in Rheden. As the route follows numbered junctions, you can also join it elsewhere along the circuit. Use the provider’s map and route PDF to plan where to begin.

Our tip? Take your time. Plan more than just the distance: leave room for a bite to eat along the way and a few moments to enjoy the scenery together.

Starting points and parking near the Posbank

Choose your route first, then decide where to park. Dieren railway station is the starting point for Dieren–Veluwezoom, while Veluwetransferium in Rheden is a popular place to begin Rondje Posbank. Planning in that order helps you avoid parking somewhere that does not connect conveniently with your ride.

Travelling by train is another option. If you are bringing your own bike, check the train operator’s bicycle rules and any reservation requirements before travelling.

Some roads around the Posbank have restrictions for cars and motorcycles. On certain roads, these apply daily in July and August, as well as on weekends and public holidays throughout the year. This does not mean the entire Posbank area is closed to cyclists. Check the general traffic restrictions.

Access arrangements are different during the roadworks, which run until 17 November 2026. On weekdays, Paviljoen De Posbank can only be reached by car from De Steeg. On weekends and public holidays, it cannot be reached by motor vehicle. The visitor centre remains accessible. Check the temporary access arrangements.

Before setting off, check the latest parking information for the Posbank and follow the signs and instructions on site.

Getting ready for your Posbank bike ride

A little preparation leaves you free to enjoy the ride. Keep these points in mind:

  • Choose a manageable route. Consider both distance and elevation, even if you cycle regularly.
  • Make use of your gears. Shift down before a climb and settle into a pace you can comfortably maintain.
  • Start with enough battery charge. Riding an e-bike? Allow for the distance, hills and level of assistance you expect to use.
  • Bring water and something to eat. That way, you can stop whenever it suits you.
  • Save the route before you leave. Make sure you can access the map or directions while you are out.
  • Respect your surroundings. Stay on permitted cycle paths and give other visitors plenty of space.

Not everyone in your group needs to ride at the same pace. Choose a route you can enjoy together rather than a distance that simply looks impressive on paper.
