Our Story:
Dominique and Tim from Holiday Homes Maridu
We, Dominique and Tim, were born and raised in Oud-Beijerland, in a warm and lively family with four boys. Together with our brothers Arjan and Simon Christian, we grew up in a real boys’ household, under the loving care of our parents, Cees and Marianne.
Our Family
Our parents were not only devoted caregivers but also true entrepreneurs. For years, they ran a diverse family business that included taxi and car rentals, vans and delivery trucks, wedding and funeral cars, courier services both in the Netherlands and abroad, and even an ambulance in the early days. Business was part of their identity and formed a strong thread throughout the Duifhuizen family.
But alongside the hard work, there was always room for joy. Spending quality time as a family was a priority. Weekends and holidays were sacred, often spent together in Voorthuizen, enjoying nature and creating unforgettable memories with friends and family.
everything changed
When our mother Marianne became seriously ill with cancer, everything changed. We sold our chalet in Voorthuizen and decided to explore Europe together in a camper. She wanted to make memories with her family — moments that would last, because no one knew how much time was left. From spontaneous overnight stays in Scheveningen to mountain hikes in Tirol, from Legoland in Denmark to boating in Giethoorn, each trip was treasured.
After her passing in 1997, our father Cees continued the tradition. Until around the year 2000, he traveled through Europe with us, until the camper made way for a new chapter: a holiday home in Markoušovice, Czech Republic. We called it “Holiday Home Marianne” as a tribute to our mother. It became our home base for holidays with friends and family — a place filled with warmth, peace, and shared memories.
True to the Duifhuizen spirit, entrepreneurship didn’t stop there. Between trips to Trutnov, Janské Lázně, Špindlerův Mlýn, and Adršpach, our father renovated houses, filled them with IKEA furniture, and restored taxis to their original state. Each house developed its own story — lovingly rebuilt and brought back to life.
As we grew older and joined the trips less often, our father began renting out the homes as a hobby. He wanted others to experience the feeling of coming home. Many guests cared for the houses with the same love we had — painting walls, deep cleaning, or simply enjoying time with their families. Just as it was meant to be: creating memories.
Now
In 2022, our father asked us: “Do you want to take over the rentals? Or should we sell everything?”
We didn’t know what to expect but chose to embrace the adventure. We decided to keep the homes in Czech Republic and start renting them out in earnest. When that took off, the dream of expanding into the Netherlands started to grow. Holiday homes closer to home — perfect for a weekend away or a short break.
Together, we found beautiful homes in Arnhem and Hattemerbroek. Our father was immediately enthusiastic, and so were we. Before long, friends and acquaintances began to entrust us with their holiday homes as well.
Today, the combination of entrepreneurship and creating memories is still a part of who we are. It’s in our DNA. What began with our parents is something we now proudly carry forward. Together with our fantastic team of hosts and hostesses, we make sure every home feels warm, welcoming, and personal.
Because that’s what it’s all about: feeling at home, being together, and truly getting away.
Future
We are Dominique and Tim, and we warmly welcome you to Holiday Homes Maridu.Named after our mother, Marianne Duifhuizen. Because that’s where it all started with her, and with our father Cees.
